Description

Sea to Sky Alphabet highlights a unique and beloved part of the world nestled in the Coast Mountains of southwest British Columbia. This beautiful book takes readers on a lyrical journey through the alphabet, travelling from ocean's edge up into the snowy slopes of the alpine. It courses down river rapids, traipses along trails, gazes upon glinting glaciers, climbs cliffs, and revels in the sights that surround. Locals and visitors alike are invited to explore, to experience, and to glimpse the richness of this place's history and myriad landscapes. Incorporation words from the local Lil'wat and Squamish First nation languages, this book encourages respectful engagement with these Lands, fuelled by curiosity and awe.

Author Biography:

Bronwyn Preece is a site-sensitive poetic pirate and multi-disciplinary, community-engaged arts practitioner. She holds a PhD in Performance, along with an MA and BFA in Applied Theatre. She has taught, facilitated workshops and performed internationally. She is the author of Gulf Islands Alphabet (Simply Read Books) and knee deep in high water: riding the Muskwa Kechika, expeditions poems (Caitlin Press), among other publications. With the word "gratitude" tattooed on her arm, she is an avid solo backcountry-backpacker who writes on the trail. Kate Zessel is an illustrator living in Pemberton, British Columbia. Growing up in Vancouver, Kate and her family spent many weekends and holidays in the mountains where she learned a deep respect for the outdoors and how to explore it on skis, bikes or by foot. Kate studied graphic design at the Vancouver Art Institute, and her unique blend of intricate line work, patterns, and nature now appear on her social platforms and throughout the outdoor industry. She has created graphics for commercial brands and large scale murals for ski resorts and retail spaces, among others.
