Description

It is 1951 and the war in Korea comes down at best to a draw. A young soldier who became a hero (quite by accident) finds himself in West Point and learns there's no way he can make the grade. As his girlfriend Ruthie urges him to fight for their future, Hershel realizes he's in over his head at West Point. He gives up and returns to active duty as Ruthie calls him a quitter and breaks their engagement. Thinking adventure will heal his broken heart; Hershel accepts assignments in France, Morocco, Algeria, and other world tinderboxes. He is surprised to encounter Ruthie in Paris where their reconciliation leads to pregnancy and an impromptu marriage. As Weber is sent to new hotspots, he is wounded and Ruthie joints him to convalesce in France. Once again, Fate enters the picture and their lives are changed.

Author Biography:

Fresh out of high school, L.H. Knickerbocker tried to be a member of the United States military. Following that, he tried to be a college professor. Then he tried to be an executive at a Fortune 500 corporation. He ended his working days trying to be an international marketing consultant. Now he's trying to be a fiction writer. His education includes degrees in military science, business administration and economics, none of which helped him as an author. This is his fourth work of fiction. In addition to three fiction and two nonfiction books, he has written three plays that were staged. He now lives in Southwest Florida. After 69 years as a sighted person, he is now blind.
