Jane Matthews studied Fine Art at The Ruskin in Oxford and Art History at the Courtauld Institute in London. She later worked in the film and TV industry as a Scenic Artist and Prop Maker. Later she monitored seals for a living and compiled a book, Skomer - Portrait of an Island. She illustrated her first children's book, Aubrey and the Terrible Yoot, by Horatio Clare in 2015, followed by the sequel, Aubrey and the Terrible Ladybirds.
