The original “Smokey and the Bandit” is undeniably a cinema classic (Burt Reynolds, Sally Field and Jackie Gleason in particular are all brilliant), however, lets keep things in perspective here…the quality of the storytelling and humour deteriorates significantly after that (I mean, the whole sequence involving Dom Deluise and the elephant for example is cringeworthy), to the point where we reach the third installment and Jerry Reed (taking over the role of “The Bandit”) has been reduced to a giggling, scatterbrained buffoon…
