Gossage's classic retelling of the Maori myth of Mt Taranaki, Mt Tauhara and Mt Putauaki is now available in a bilingual Maori-English edition, translated by Heni Jacob.

Me pakanga a Tongariro ki etahi atu maunga kaha e toru, ki a Taranaki, ki a Tauhara, ki a Putauaki, mo tana wahine mo Pihanga te take. Koia nei te paki o tana pana i a ratou tokotoru ki nga wahi e tu nei ratou i enei ra.
He tauira kei muri o te pukapuka e hanga ai koe i au ake maunga. Mau ano e whakahaere tau ake pakanga a nga maunga!
He putanga reo Maori–reo Pakeha o tenei tino pakiwaitara o Aotearoa.

Tongariro is forced to battle three strong mountains, Taranaki, Tauhara and Putauaki, to keep his wife, Pihanga, safe from them. This is the story of how he successfully banishes them to the positions where they stand today.
