Description

The 1975 is the self-titled debut studio album by British alternative rock band The 1975, originally released in September 2013 via Dirty Hit and Polydor Records.

The 1975 are an English alternative rock band formed in Wilmslow, Cheshire. The group consists of Matthew Healy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Adam Hann (lead guitar), Ross MacDonald (bass), and George Daniel (drums). They attended Wilmslow High School in Wilmslow, Cheshire, and as teenagers began to play music together in 2002.

They have released four EPs between mid-2012 and early 2013: Facedown (2012), Sex (2012), Music for Cars (2013) and IV (2013), while their 2013 self-titled debut album debuted at number one in the UK Albums Chart. Their second album, I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it, was released worldwide on 26 February 2016, and debuted at number one in the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200.

The 1975 debut album was co-produced by the band and Mike Crossey, who has previously worked with Arctic Monkeys and Foals.

In 2012, in an interview with Elliot Mitchell of When the Gramophone Rings, The 1975 frontman Matty Healy said about the album content: “This recording process has been really fun, as we've had a lot of these songs for a while, and to record them in a completely different mindset with a completely different outlook has been really interesting. (…) There album isn't a haberdashery of past singles and old stuff, it has been focused down into a collective piece of work. There's tracks on there that people would have heard live, and older tracks that we've reworked. This album is a soundtrack to our formative years, so it would be dishonest to not put songs on there that we wrote when we were 21, as we want people to connect to it in the same way that we do.” He described the musical style as “pretty experimental, and goes from glitchy R&B to big 80's powerpop to mid 90's soul, but it's done in our way obviously”.
