Centuries ago the Kingseer spoke her prophesy of doom to the newly crowned king of Corrigar. Though some have grown to believe them merely an old wives tale, others will now use her words to manipulate a FreeSword and throw the kingdom in civil war. Grendelak Mishtar, sworn member of the FreeSword Brotherhood, has been away on Contract for years. Instead of the celebrated return he anticipated, he finds his kingdom disrupted and the king seeking his head. He must save the Brotherhood while trying to avoid the cryptic mutterings of the skald that haunts his dreams.
