Description

Two families are flung together on a night of cataclysmic weather. Bruised, tired and seduced by the flow of alcohol, they wrestle with their differences until, suddenly, the unthinkable happens. Something unbelievable. As their versions of what happened begin to fall apart and their perspectives become clouded by suspicion, they turn on each other in a desperate fight to understand the truth. Frantic Assembly and Bryony Lavery follow the success of their previous collaborations (Stockholm and Beautiful Burnout) with this thrilling and highly visceral exploration of love and loss. Bryony Lavery's The Believers premiered at The Drum Theatre in February 2014, before touring the UK in a co-production between Frantic Assembly and Theatre Royal Plymouth, in association with Curve Theatre, Leicester.

Author Biography:

Bryony Lavery's plays include Last Easter (Manhattan Classic Company), A Wedding Story (Sphinx) and Frozen (TMA Best Play 2001, Eileen Anderson Best Play 2001) which began life at Birmingham Rep, moved to the National Theatre, London, and was then produced on Broadway where it was nominated for four Tony awards. She has written five plays for National Theatre Connections. Recent work includes Kursk (Sound and Fury), The Wicked Lady (New Vic, Stoke-on-Trent), Stockholm (Frantic Assembly/ Sydney Theatre Company) which received the Wolff-Whiting Best Play 2008, and, with Jason Carr, A Christmas Carol (Birmingham Rep/ West Yorkshire Playhouse). Beautiful Burnout premiered at the Pleasance Forth, Edinburgh in 2010 (Frantic Assembly/National Theatre of Scotland). She is honorary Doctor of Arts at De Montford University and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
