The period of 1800–15 covers some of the most glorious moments in the military history of Great Britain, during which the British Army fought against Napoleon Bonaparte and his newly established French Empire around the globe. At the beginning of the 19th century, British military forces were still influenced by outdated tactical models. During the Napoleonic Wars, however, under the command of a new generation of leaders and in the face of a new enemy, the military began to evolve.
