Description

This companion provides commentary and devotional reflection on each of the Gospel readings in the Book of Common Prayer, for Sundays and for other occasions during the year. It is intended as an aid for those who preach, for those who prepare for worship by reading the scriptures of the day and for those who say the daily office alone. Each reflection is followed by a simple and heartfelt prayer and a quotation drawn from the breadth of the Christian tradition. A helpful introduction enlarges our understanding of the Gospels and their place in Prayer Book worship.

Author Biography:

RAYMOND CHAPMAN is the author of many widely-used books of prayer and devotion including Leading Intercessions, Hear Our Prayer, and A Pastoral Prayer Book. He was a Vice-Chairman of the Prayer Book Society, Emeritus Professor of English Literature in the University of London, and a greatly loved priest in the diocese of Southwark. He died in 2013.
