Author Biography:

The US DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY was established in 1798 to provide a government organizational structure to the US Navy, the US Marine Corps, and the US Coast Guard. In 1949, the Department of the Navy became, along with the Department of the Army and Department of the Air Force, a military department within the Department of Defense. The US MARINE CORPS is a branch of the US Armed Forces responsible for conducting expeditionary and amphibious operations with the US Navy, as well as the Army and Air Force.
