Description

Have you ever overheard people talking about mp3 songs or gigabytes? Did you ever wonder what a "gaffer" does or who the "best man" on a movie production set is? What does a "bluetooth" and what is a "plug-in" for a software program? The Digital Dictionary will answer most of your common questions! It contains a large body of information which is public knowledge and represents more than nine years of research time and a substantial creative compilation and editing effort. The entire book content was collected, cross-checked and verified with help of the World Wide Web, several Public Libraries and reaffirmed in interviews with countless individuals. The Digital Dictionary was then edited and simplified to math layman's terms and to make it "jargon free". It is not intended for those wizards that know everything and who's goal it is to find mistakes in other peoples lives; instead it is meant to be a quick-resource guide and information packed manual for individuals and enthusiasts that are curious and want to know.

Author Biography:

Micheal Phillips was born as the second son of typesetter Heinz and his wife Hildegard in Bonn, Germany. After completing extensive educational training, four years of military service with honorable discharge and holding almost ten years of upper management positions at Radio Shak and Alpine Electronics, he decided to immigrate into the United States of America. Here he fulfilled his lifelong dream to become involved in the movie industry. During his first 15 years in the video, audio and computer Industry, he realized the lack of a handbook to simplify the tech-talk that surrounded him. Many times he overheard people talking, but had no idea what they were talking about. His curiosity led him to visit several different bookstores, looking for a dictionary or handbook, to shed light on the "mystery terms" people were talking in. In 1995 and without any success in finding the right literature, he concluded that it would be a neat idea, to have a handbook and quickly find an answer for the most basic questions and widely used terms in his part of the Industry and the approaching digital revolution... for instance: what is a "jib" or a "gaffer"; what is a kilobyte and what does a cache do? He decided to embark on a new quest and to write the book himself... the idea of The Digital Dictionary was born.
