KATIE VERLIN LAATIKAINEN is Associate Professor of Political Science at Adelphi University, USA. Her most recent publications include United Nations Politics (with Donald J. Puchala and Roger Coate) and Norden's Eclipse in Cooperation and Conflict. KAREN E. SMITH is Reader in International Relations and Director of the European Foreign Policy Unit at the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK.
