Description

Word on Fire's Flannery O'Connor Collection introduces readers to one of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. Many are initially hesitant to approach O'Connor's work, as she is known for her use of the shocking and grotesque; but it is in these moments of great darkness that she allows for the greatest breakthroughs of grace, revealing a deep understanding of human nature that is Catholic through and through. This collection features famous short stories like "A Good Man Is Hard to Find," the entire novel The Violent Bear It Away, and many of O'Connor's letters and essays that explicate the themes of her works. Valuable to the seasoned fan and first-time reader alike, it seeks to lend a better understanding and deeper appreciation of her literary output.

Author Biography:

Flannery O'Connor (1925-1964) was a Catholic novelist and short story writer. Known for her Southern Gothic style and emphasis on the grotesque, she was celebrated for her honest and deeply perceptive portrayal of sin and grace. Bishop Robert Barron is the founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries and the host of CATHOLICISM, a groundbreaking, award-winning documentary about the Catholic faith. On July 21, 2015, Pope Francis announced his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and on June 2, 2022, he appointed Bishop Barron the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester (Minnesota). Ordained in 1986 in the Archdiocese of Chicago, Bishop Barron received a master's degree in philosophy from The Catholic University of America in 1982 and a doctorate in sacred theology from the Institut Catholique de Paris in 1992.
