Description

An intriguing, hilariously funny and quintessential crawl around 50 of New Zealand's tried and true Kiwi pubs. An intriguing, hilariously funny and quintessential crawl around 50 of New Zealand's tried and true Kiwi pubs. 'There's a totem pole at the Mussel Inn. It stands as a sentinel monument warning incoming visitors that they're in a different world; a world without insistent notifications, instant access and where if someone wants you, they'll just have to wait. It is quite literally a telephone pole, a pole that has mobile phones nailed to it. The outside world be warned- leave your phone in the car and come inside for a beer, you silly bugger.' From Whangamomona to Tolaga Bay, the Puhoi to the South Seas Hotel, this is a collection of stories about those bastions of community we hold dear, the good old Kiwi pub. Featuring pubs from- Waipu, Kaihu, Russell, Hamilton, Mount Maunganui, Thames, East Cape, Tolaga Bay, Katikati, Rotorua, Napier, Gladstone, Lake Ferry, Wellington, Motueka, Onekaka, Moutere, Christchurch, Waihao, Dunedin, Winton, Invercargill, Stewart Island, Arrowtown, Blackball, Hurunui and Nelson.

Author Biography:

Ned Bartlett (Author) Ned is one half of the dynamic beer tasting duo, Bartlett and Corfe. Ned met Jono in a pub. Ned is British, and has a heightened awareness of pubs and their value in society. Jono Corfe (Author) Jonathan Corfe, the drunken sod, spends far too much time in pubs and, by general agreement of his former teachers and ex-wife, will never amount to much. Nelsonian born, Cantabrian raised Corfe was kicked out of boarding school for running a gambling book and graduated with an LLB from the University of Canterbury much to the surprise of the Dean of Law who subsequently resigned. He has been sentenced to live in Auckland for the foreseeable future, is about an inch taller than Bartlett and wishes you'd stop interrupting.
