Description

Although readers may be familiar with Hedon and Paull Aerodrome, they might not be so familiar with their histories. That is because for the longest time, their stories remained vastly untold. Throughout the fifties, sixties and seventies, Albert Neville Medforth, Hull's `Mr Aviation', campaigned for a local air service to serve the people of Kingston-upon-Hull in the United Kingdom. Tirelessly, he fought through trial and tribulation to see his dream come to fruition, but was often prohibited financially. Neville's keen enthusiasm for local aviation in the city of Hull led him to become involved with the Hedon Aerodrome in the late fifties, eventually paving the way for the creation of Paull Aerodrome in the late sixties. For the longest time, this history remained untold and in July 2007, Neville passed away. In December 2014, a draft copy of his book was discovered and, after many months work, has been completed and supplemented with new, previously unseen material. The book has been completed by his grandson, Alexander Slingsby. With approval from Neville's daughter, the book charts Neville's life from birth to death. It gives a detailed account of his involvement within aviation between 1957 and 1970, with information sourced from personal diaries, correspondence and newspaper articles. The book also gives an insightful personal account of his thoughts throughout, and the frustrations he faced undertaking such an ambitious endeavour.
