Description

AboutBook: Much has been written about Englishman, John Godbold, who appeared in South Carolina in the early 1730s. However, very little documentation of his life has been presented. This book reviews information about him from seven published sources, explores historical events and South Carolina political jurisdictions necessary for an understanding of the times in which he lived and presents a new documented version of Old John's story. Part two is a five generation family tree of Old John's descendants with information about their lives from census records, wills, court records, etc. Authorbio: Edward Lewis Godbold, Sr. grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in 1958, received his commission as a second lieutenant in Armor ROTC and began working for Alabama Gas Corporation in 1959. He retired from the United States Army Reserve after 30 years service in 1988 as Chief of Staff of the 121st Army Reserve Command with the rank of Colonel. He retired from Alabama Gas Corporation in 1998 as Division Manager of the Montgomery, Alabama Division. With his work life behind him, he was then able to devote his time to family history, Auburn football, Mary, his wife of 49 years, his four children and seven grandchildren.
