Description

This encyclopedic reference takes into account the status of interventional neuroradiology in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. It explains and discusses the various options to recanalize occluded extra-and intracranial vessels. The book provides an in-depth description of the different endovascular treatment strategies, including thrombectomy for large vessel inclusion, balloon angioplasty and intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis, and stenting of extra- and intracranial arterial dissections and their conservative treatment, and bypass surgery for subacute and chronic cerebral hypoperfusion. The book also offers tips and tricks for each procedure to enable readers to understand better the benefits and limitations of the endovascular management of ischemic stroke patients. Similarly, it explains the technical aspects of the procedures with their respective pros and cons. Written by respected experts in the field, the book will be a valuable resource for interventional neuroradiologists and neurologists, vascular and endovascular neurosurgeons, stroke neurologists, and other practitioners at all levels of experience.

After a dissertation in 1989 in Neurophysiology, he received the Venia legendi for Neuroradiology in 1999, with an extraordinary professorship for Neuroradiology at the University Duisburg-Essen in 2006. Since 2007, he has been Medical Director of the Neuroradiological Clinic at the Klinikum Stuttgart, which is, in terms of numbers of patients and procedures annually, one of the largest institutions of this kind in Europe. He co-authored some 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals with an h-index of 40 and 5900+ citations. He is the co-inventor of some 60 patents on neurovascular devices, including the Solitaire stent invention. In 2008, he did with this stent the first successful stent-retriever thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke treatment. In 2017, he received the CIRSE “Award of Excellence and Innovation in Interventional Radiology” for the invention of stent thrombectomy. In 2013 and in 2020, he was awarded a “doctor honoris causa” title by Dnepr and Budapest's medical schools, respectively. José E. In 1997, he started his neuroendovascular training at ENERI in Buenos Aires. Immediately after finishing my training in 2001, he was appointed Medical Director of the Vascular Neurosurgery and EndovascularNeurosurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology divisions at the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Centers in Jerusalem, Israel. This center is in terms of numbers of patients and procedures annually among the most active institution of this kind in the Middle East and participated in many multicentric clinical studies. Professor Cohen co-authored some 200 publications in peer-reviewed leading journals and books and actively participated in more than 200 international scientific meetings.
