When four women head to a tiny island off the coast of Nantucket, they are all hoping to escape their troubles... Birdie is organising a wedding, though her own marriage is falling apart. Her sister India is running away from her first chance of happiness in a long time, while Birdie's younger daughter Tate is running to something, but what that is, she doesn't yet know. And then there's Tate's sister, Chess, who is just a mystery that none of the other women know if they will everunravel. Gathering together for the first time in years on Tuckernuck Island, in the ramshackle family home with no running water, they settle into a routine. But just how long can they hide from the secrets, lies and tragedy they have left behind?

Elin Hilderbrand is a graduate of The University of Iowa`s Writers` Workshop, where she was a teaching/writing fellow. She lives with her husband and their three children on Nantucket, Massachusetts.
