Description

Once there was a king who lived in a grand castle. He was loved by all the villagers, but they couldn't help but wonder why he never came outside. Finally, a little girl named Sophie writes a letter to the king that convinces him to show himself to the villagers. When the big day arrives, they are shocked and surprised by what they see. This is no ordinary king! Sensitive, serious and silly, this vibrantly illustrated tale celebrates diversity and difference, and will show readers that when we embrace differences in ourselves and others, we open up a world of friendship and possibilities.

Author Biography:

Robin was an imaginative child, always creating. Her early introduction to the whimsical verse of British poet, Edward Lear (1812-1888) left an enduring impression. At age ten, her first story (bound in staples), was on the shelf at her elementary school library. Today, Robin integrates a bachelor's degree in communications with studies in creative writing from Emerson College and a master's degree in counseling psychology from Lesley University. Following a professional career in management, Robin discovered the gratifying work in the social sector. She has led middle school workshops, tutored immigrant families in English, mentored young women with children in transitional housing, among other rewarding adventures that always reinforced the value of inclusion. Robin and her husband raised three kids and live in Massachusetts enjoying time with family and friends. When she's not crafting a story, Robin is likely crafting contemporary art with paper, glass, and mixed media, creating business names and taglines, or visiting Cape Cod, Florida, and New York (a true melting pot).
