Description

Twenty poems by Michael H. Dickman, transformed into a fictional autobiography of recently deceased poet Frank Arcanity. With notes written by an equally fictional critic who uses the opportunity to repay Frank for real or imagined injuries. Two artists contributed four drawings each to illustrate the poems. A list of questions at the end of the book may provoke discussions, arguments, and possibly fisticuffs. This is the first book in the Pocamug Press Emerging Artist Series, intended to highlight artists who are being published for the first time in a particular genre.

Author Biography:

Michael H. Dickman was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. After getting a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati, he went to the University of California at Irvine, learned X-ray crystallography and obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry. Then he attended Franklin Pierce Law Center (now affiliated with the University of New Hampshire), where he received his J.D. He practiced patent law in Washington, DC for a while. After that he went back into chemistry, doing research and teaching at Georgetown University and at Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany. He is the author or co-author of about one hundred papers published in international scientific journals, and eventually managed to teach science at the graduate, undergraduate, high school, and middle school levels in the USA. Mr. Dickman now writes puzzles, fiction, and poetry when he isn't doing ceramics or computer programming. Karina Arreola is a graphic design artist living in South Pasadena, California, with her husband and three beautiful children. She loves and appreciates all of the visual arts, including user interface design for mobile apps and all of the art that goes with it. She enjoys using her abilities to create graphic illustrations for the local school district, where her kids attend. Jarett Coyle will attend the Honors program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisville in the Fall of 2016. His artwork has been exhibited at the Cox Gallery and the Kentucky Gateway Museum in Maysville, Kentucky.
