“The Mysterious Cities of Gold” is a certainty for one of the top, if not THE top, spot in animated series from the last 30 years. It follows the adventure of orphan boy, Esteban, from Spain to the New World in the time of the Conquistadores, searching for his father who he believes may still be alive and is linked in some way to ‘The Mysterious Cities of Gold’. He is joined in his adventures by great friends and companions, and encounters nasty villians and dangers along the way.
The plot is a fantastic piece of writing and engages you throughout the whole 39 episodes. It includes incidents, places and people from reality and it is through this that the educational part of the series comes through. At the end of each episode, some aspect of the story is highlighted in a short, fascinating snippet. There are also great twists and plots and superb character development.
I cannot recommend this series enough, go ahead and treat yourself!
