Approximately 90% of thrombi in atrial fibrillation originate in the left atrium of the heart, specifically in the left atrial appendage. Fluid-dynamic knowledge of the fluid-dynamic behavior of this appendage is still scarce, so there is a need for knowledge in this area. The problem is approached from the point of view of the validation of hemodynamic numerical models and the establishment of adequate boundary conditions.
