"The Passed On," the second tale of the Ghost Killers, is a master class in California Gothic.Newlyweds Mike and Cheyenne Buckman travel to a seaside mansion in Ventura known as Folly's Cove, where a locked staircase ascends to three mysterious rooms. They have been hired by Robert Sarka, the son and heir of Benedek Sarka, an actor whose filmography included roles in numerous classics of modern horror before he left the screen to devote himself to the plays of Christopher Marlowe. Alien dreams steeped in the traditions of sex magic infect the team. A 1946 documentary unleashes a malign forces, bringing the group face to face with the ghost of infamous sorcerer Aleister Crowley. The black magician conjures an appalling demon and seeks to lock Robert and the Ghost Killers into a Faustian pact. Their plan of attack requires Cheyenne's unpredictable mother Valentina to work in concert with Mike's personal ghost, his grandfather Wilbur, who will have to abandon his normal attitude of principled withdrawal from the cares of the living.
Author Biography:
Educated at Stanford and Columbia, William Kerrigan has taught English literature at the state universities of Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts. He is the author and/or editor of eighteen books of literary scholarship and criticism, published by presses such as Harvard, Yale, and Johns Hopkins. Most recently he co-edited four volumes of John Milton's works in the Random House Modern Library. Now retired and living in California, he writes mystery novels, including a series called "The Kerrigan/Seagrove Mysteries" charting the early history of the movie business in California, featuring Wallace Kerrigan (the author's grandfather) and his mistress Pearl Seagrove. He is also the author of supernatural thrillers in the "Tales of the Ghost Killers" series. "The Ghost Killers of Black Ash Canyon" inaugurated the series. The latest entry, and Kerrigan's most recent novel, is "The Passed On," a master class in California Gothic.
