Description

1779. Three Volumes in One. With the life of the author. Churchill, English poet and satirist, took religious orders, but life as a London dandy suited him more, and he resigned his curacy. His first poem and perhaps his best work, The Rosciad, a satire on the leading actresses and actors of the day, was an immediate success. His other works include The Prophecy of Famine, a highly topical political satire, and An Epistle to William Hogarth, attacking Hogarth for his heartless portrait of John Wilkes. All of these are contained in this collection. He died young on his way to visit his friend Wilkes who was in exile in Paris.
