This is a paperback reprint of the paperback edition published by University of Chicago Press in 1997. It has sold approximately 4,000 copies. It was originally published in cloth by Simon & Schuster in 1996. The Price of a Dream recounts the compelling story of the Grameen Bank, one of the most successful development organizations in the world. Founded by Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh in 1976, the Grameen Bank has extended small loans for self-employment to more than two million women villagers and helped free hundreds of thousands from the grip of poverty. The Grameen Bank has become an inspiration to policymakers everywhere, conservatives and liberals alike.

Author Biography

David Bornstein is a journalist who has written articles for Atlantic Monthly, Details, Newsday, and Science. He is author of How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas, which was described by the Iew York Times as "must reading" for "anyone who cares about building a more equitable and therefore a more stable world."
