Description

The Royal Collection is enormous, yet visitors only see a fraction of its masterpieces. This book provides a rare opportunity to see paintings not readily accessible to the world at large.   Every year, millions of art lovers visit The Royal Collection, which consists of over a million works. More than half of the paintings featured in the book are not normally available for public viewing and include several that have never been exhibited since entering the collection.   This stunning volume showcases masterpiece paintings including works by Bellini, Mantegna, Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Caravaggio, Canaletto, Cranach, Holbein, Rubens, Rembrandt, van Dyck, Vermeer, Hogarth, Gainsborough, and many others. From still life paintings to landscapes to portraits, the world’s finest paintings are reproduced in glorious detail.   Spread over 13 locations—from royal residences such as Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and Kensington Palace to places devoted to the public display of art such as the Queen’s Gallery and Hampton Court Palace—The Royal Collection was begun almost by accident. It was one of the last of the great royal art collections to be formed and is the largest to have survived intact into the twenty-first century.
