When his daughter is kidnapped, David Baker is helpless to aid in her recovery; indeed all his energy is focused on urging the police to uncover and pursue every lead, not to mention removing himself from suspicion and dealing with his wife's guilt and trauma. What follows is a downward spiral into alcohol and homelessness, until a chance encounter sets him on a path across the world that will eventually change him in name and spirit. As David saves his own life by avenging the weak and destroying those who prey upon them, he becomes the target of a police manhunt that threatens to derail his mission. Just as he is about to be stopped by a wily Detective Inspector of the Scottish Lothian and Borders Police, another kidnapping intervenes to free him of his police pursuers, but subjects him to a more dangerous threat at the hands of the criminals heading the pedophile ring he is about to unravel.
