Description

Over the past few years, my life has changed significantly. In those years prior, I was a hurting, lonely, autistic woman, who felt there was no place in the world where she belonged. In the present I can claim to now be a strong woman, growing in confidence, yet still autistic - who realizes that the world is a wonderful thing to be part of. Where my challenges may sometimes be unique, for the most part they are common to many people. Where my perspective may sometimes be unique, I can only hope that sharing it may possibly allow others to see things in a new light, to join me in looking at the world through eyes of hope and possibility. There is no order or logic in how these thoughts, poems and pictures are presented. I hope that there are those out there who might appreciate and enjoy them as my wishes to share my heart with all of you.

Author Biography:

Jean Williams is an autistic woman, born in Massachusetts, and raised on both coasts, following the careers of her professional parents. Having a father who was a Semiconductor Reliability Engineer, and mother a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology, Jean found herself growing up largely ignored, and in the shadow of her parents' careers and shared interests. With no support for her autism and a childhood full of moves and isolation, Jean spent many hours watching and observing people. Following in her parents technology footsteps, she completed her BS in Technology, Software Engineering and an MS in Management. However, after spending over 35 years in the Information Technology field, Jean finally realized that Software Engineering was not providing the opportunities to draw on her strengths, and focus on the things that most mattered to her. As an autistic, people have always been both a fascination and a source of frustration to her. With the hope of finding the understanding that had eluded her for so many years, Jean has turned her attentions and energies to finding those answers, and in turn to sharing them, in the hopes that those bits of insight that have finally given her solace may help to do the same for others.
