Description

In this book, you are going to read a distinctive analysis by two insiders, experts of the region, who use first-hand data, to provide you with a unique insight explaining in detail old and recent aspects of the relations between China and the Arab World. While Gafar Karar Ahmed is an academic based in Beijing since over twenty years, Hichem Karoui is based in the Arab Gulf since eight years, and both have connections and contributions in academia and think tanks inside China and the Arab World.Working together, using both primary and open sources of information, they assembled a picture of China and the Arab World that many of you do not even suspect. Not only China's role is rapidly evolving in regional political and economical developments, but it is also facilitated by the mistakes of major powers, including the USA, which have usually played a role that bypassed influence. China is also more popular in the Arab World than the USA. As the Arabs are evolving toward exerting more control over their future, China is paying attention and getting more presence in the shaping of the Arab economic and technological development. Its political involvement is also assessed in this book. The purpose of the co-authors is to assess three aspects of the Chinese-Arab relations: Historical, political, and economical, which end up in strategy. But this book is different from many others on China, either published in the West or in China itself.1) It does not come with a biased viewpoint on any actor.2) It is all but an ideological "tool" in today's uncovered war between China and the USA.3) It does not take sides either in the muted struggle between Beijing and Washington in the Middle East and specifically in the oil and gas-rich Gulf region.4) It does not make assumptions about who should lead the world. This is not therefore a political book, but a book on politics. Those who have a preference for truths over half-truths, facts over assumptions, and data-based analysis over propaganda and self-centered worldview, will enjoy reading it.
