Description

Christopher Ray addresses many of the fundamental issues of the philosophy of space and time, while avoiding daunting technicality and jargon. The paradoxical nature of space and the problem of infinitesimals are aspects of a broad ranging discussion which clarifies and debates the premises of the work of Newton, Einstein and other scientific giants. It is a key feature of the book that these ideas are presented in a philosophical context. Ray applies his findings to questions of cosmology, including the big bang and determinism, and concludes with a re-evaluation of the philosophy of relativity.

Author Biography:

Christopher Ray is Assistant Professor in History and Philosophy of Science at Portland State University, Oregon. His published works include The Evolution of Relativity (1987).
