Political thriller set amidst apartheid-torn 1970s South Africa. The Tokolosh is a spirit believed by some tribes of southern Africa to be able to make a human being an instrument of evil. Anyone possessed by the Tokolosh is totally overcome by it and cannot account for evil actions while under its control. Koos, a policeman in apartheid South Africa, loves Helen, but Helen is a leader of the anti-apartheid movement, and the principal target of Koos's redneck commandant Jaap. As insurrectionary forces gather throughout southern Africa, every character has uniquely painful, threatening and tragic choices to make.
