Author Biography

Tony Trischka began playing the banjo in 1963 and hasn't turned back since. In the ensuing years he has released a multitude of solo albums for Rounder Records, published a variety of instruction books for Oak Publications, and has recorded and toured with different artists, including: Earl Scruggs, Pete Seeger, Bela Fleck, David Grisman, Del McCourey, Charles Osgood, Alison Krauss, William S. Burroughs, Peter Rowan, the South Korea Radio Orchestra, Violent Femmes, Jorma Kaukonen, and John Denver. Tony is recognized as a major progressive force in banjo playing. His seminal early '70s recordings helped expand the scope of the banjo, both compositionally and improvisationally. He continues to blaze historical and futuristic musical trails.
