"Great Australian romantic comedy"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This Australian film was a little different as focussed on An Aboriginal tribe on an island off-shore near Darwin. The bride-to-be's mother ran away from her tribe to marry an Australian but has now run away again – unfinished business! The daughter is trying to find her mother but finds her tribe instead. The Australian scenery in the Northern Territory is gorgeous despite the crocodile signs. Humour abounds and there is a happy, colourful ending when the wedding takes place.

Description

Engaged and in love Lauren and Ned have just 10 days to reunite her newly separated parents and pull off their dream Top End Wedding. But Lauren's mother has gone missing, experiencing a midlife crisis. In order to find her, the couple goes on a fantastic road trip across northern Australia. Along the way they find fulfillment for their own personal journeys through the wild beauty of the landscapes and the unbeatable charm of the characters that they meet along the way. But will they finally recover Lauren's mother and pursue their dream wedding?

""Top End Wedding" strains for broad farce in its tonally yo-yoing first half, before relaxing into a gentler, more poignant tale of familial bonding as the forestalled but inevitable nuptials approach." - Variety

“The traditional Tiwi love song heard in the final scenes and the joyous faces of the locals – mixing trained actors with nonprofessionals – make the destination warmly satisfying, even if it's sometimes a rough ride getting there.” - Hollywood Reporter
