Unlike the previous reviewer I found this movie an extremely good representation of Bipolar Disorder in the acutely manic phase. I myself was diagnosed 20yrs ago and know firsthand how terrifyingly beautiful and dangerous mania can be, and the capacity this illness has to derail ones life. I have read all of Kay Redfield Jamison's books on the subject and the fact that she not only gave this movie her stamp of approval but also has a brief cameo in it herself indicates its importance to the laypersons and even medical professionals understanding of this wildly variable illness. No two people are the same but I could identify with every step of this films journey. The ONLY part I felt was slightly inaccurate was the availability of metal cutlery in a mental institution! You will need to watch to see what I mean!! There is so much misunderstanding of mental illness in our society, and this movie goes a long way in trying to address that. Up there with A Beautiful Mind as far as I am concerned.
