At first glance you could compare True Crime to the Grand theft auto series, but look closer and they couldn’t be more different. An action adventure game that lets you drive and walk through a completely recreated Los Angeles that is filled with the average citizen to thugs who are armed to the teeth and wont hesitate to shoot it out if they feel threatened.
True crime is very story based, the first scene introduces you to the main character and sets the atmosphere. You are Nick Kang, an LA cop who is the cities only hope to restore law and order in a chaotic situation.
There are cut scenes before every mission, they are done well and do add to the story with very little slow down.
The missions wont differ widely; they are basic drive to this location and beat up the bad guy. There isn’t much skill involved in this process and will take you back to the days of the 2D button mashers. How you resolve a situation will depend on how you are rated being it good or bad cop. If you kill too many suspects and become a bad cop a militia will come after you until you are dean, take the alternative and you will get access to 24/7 training centers where you can upgrade your fighting, driving and shooting skills. There are also random crimes where you cruise the streets and pat down anyone you come past for drugs or weapons, just be ready because if a criminal is armed they wont hesitate in using it when they realize you are undercover.
Graphics lock terrible, game play is simplistic and Activisions plan to mix the strategy of an under cover cop with kung-fu action just didn’t work for me.
