Description

This delighful children's story opens with the heroine Tilda recouperating in a hospital after being kicked by a performing pony in the circus she calls home. She makes a promise to a fellow patient and sets out, aided by her dog, 'Dolph, to find one Arthur Miles Chandon, the patient's son, currently residing in the Holy Innocents Orphanage. They both escape the orphanage, but upon returning to the hospital, they find that Arthur's mother has died. Tilda and Arthur then head out on an quest to find a place called Holmness, encountering old friends, new friends and a few enemies along the way.

Author Biography:

Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch (1863 - 1944) was a Cornish writer who published using the pseudonym Q. Although a prolific novelist, he is remembered mainly for the monumental publication The Oxford Book Of English Verse 1250-1900 (later extended to 1918) and for his literary criticism. He influenced many who never met him, including American writer Helene Hanff, author of 84, Charing Cross Road and its sequel, Q's Legacy. His Oxford Book of English Verse was a favorite of John Mortimer's fictional character Horace Rumpole.
