The book forms the Proceedings of the 5th International Symposium on Tubular Structures, following previous events in Boston (1984), Tokyo (1986), Finland (1989), Delft (1991). Sponsored by British Steel, International Institute of Welding and CIDECT, it forms an important forum for advanced structural research and development. The contributions cover developments in design, planning fabrication and construction of structures, prestigious international developments, and the continuing work of research and development; which are proceeding throughout the world. These papers describe the innovative use of structural steel, while also indicating developments in the understanding of the behaviour of such structures, with refinement of design procedures.
