Description

Ron Mann takes a trip back in time to when music got its funk and dance got soul. While the youth were learning to move their hips to some of the craziest songs ever written, social groups and government authorities were preaching of the downfall of society as we knew it. Then came The Twist! Suddenly every white kid in the U.S. was filling their LP collections with black music and the simplest of dance moves became a cultural phenomenon. Combining rare and often hilarious archival footage featuring Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Little Richard combined with interviews from some of the biggest names in 60s and 70s dance music including Chubby Checker, Hank Ballard and Joey Dee, Ron Manns Twist humourously chronicles the evolution of rock n roll dance from a time when moving your hips marked you as a social degenerate to a time when shaking your groove thang could mark you as pop-culture icon.

Twist, finally on DVD also features some groovy extras including an instruction dance guide on how to do the Mashed Potato, the Monkey, the Pony and the big daddy of them all, The Twist. Also included is montage of rare concert footage featuring Souls biggest names and a candid interview with director Ron Mann on his fascination with the worlds craziest dance craze..
