Under the Hood of the Universe is a guided whirlwind tour through some of the more interesting aspects of the world of physics. It looks at the often quirky, sometimes funny, and regularly bizarre dimensions of the subject. It is accessible without any prior knowledge in science, other than general, such as knowing that the earth revolves around the sun. Chapters are in bite-size chunks without digression, but the short burst of concentration required for each section does not mean that the material has been dumbed-down at all. Under the Hood of the Universe should appeal to the intelligence of a broad audience as an introduction to the fascinations of physics, all presented in an informal engaging style. The immediately accessible nature of the work is apparent with the briefest of page sweeps, a glimpse revealing that physics is not nearly so incomprehensible as so many have been misled to understand.
