Upper Clydesdale, the rural part of South Lanarkshire, is one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Author Biography:

Daniel Martin was born in Carluke and lived there his whole life. Widely respected as a local historian, he was also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and taught Mathematics at Glasgow University. He died in 2006.
