Description

BASTA VESTICJA, or 'A Witch's Garden' is rich presentation of the occult properties and witchcraft lore of over 60 herbs and trees. Written by a modern practitioner and ethnologist, the book discusses the magical usages of herbs in healing, witchcraft, and shamanic trance, as well as the relation between spirits of the land and the plant powers accessed by the witch. Although the specific emphasis is on the occult traditions of the Balkans, most of the plants are found widely distributed across Europe, and contains information which has never been published elsewhere. Lavishly illustrated by artist Liv Rainey Smith with over 50 original botanical woodcuts specially commissioned for the project, BASTA VESTICJA is an engrossing book of plant lore that is both beautiful and informative.

Author Biography:

Radomir Ristic is a Serbian author specializing in the magic and ethnology of southeast European traditions, as well as some Caribbean and South American ones. He is the author of Balkan Traditional Witchcraft (Pendraig), and his articles have appeared in The Cauldron journal and the Serbian esoteric periodicals ZONA and MISTIKA. Most recently his work has appeared in the traditional witchcraft anthology Hands of Apostasy. His first major work for Three Hands Press was Witchcraft and Sorcery of the Balkans. Artist Liv Rainey-Smith specializes in hand-pulled woodcut prints. Her bold figure-oriented imagery draws upon visions from Gnosticism, magic, nightmares, history and fiction. Rainey-Smith's process incorporates a mixture of traditional and modern tools as well as a blend of European and Japanese printmaking technique. She prints primarily in small editions on both paper and parchment. Born in Moab, Utah, Liv currently resides in Portland, Oregon.
