Description

Many backpackers dream of taking epic, once in a lifetime thru-hikes that take months and cover thousands of miles. The author is not one of those people. For Jim Rahtz, the best thru-hikes are those that are still epic, but take only weeks, rather than months to complete. The Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) is one of those trails. At 170 miles, the distance is less intimidating than many, but the experience is still amazing. This is a dream trip for anyone that wants to immerse themselves in a possibly life changing adventure, but doesn't want to give up the life they have to do it.Make no mistake, this trail is not an easy hike. It weaves through the Sierra Nevada after all. However, the scenery is amazing, thru-hike logistics are simpler than most and navigation is straight forward. Come along and discover all the specific challenges and rewards of a thru-hike around the TRT. Be warned, however. Once you've finished this short book, your bucket list may have gotten a little longer.Walking in Circles was recently named 2017 "Outstanding Media Achievement" by the Outdoor Writers of Ohio. Photos from the book also received a 1st Place Award from the same organization for "Best Series of Photographs."

Author Biography:

Jim Rahtz spent a career in park and recreation management in Ohio. Once retired, he followed the advice to "go take a hike" and began backpacking shorter, long trails. Beyond the TRT, Rahtz has also thru-hiked the Colorado Trail, John Muir Trail, The Long Trail, and Sheltowee Trace. As a freelance writer and photographer, his work has won multiple awards; appearing in national publications and websites such as Camping Life, The Boundary Waters Journal, TrailGroove and The Trek. This is his fourth book on backpacking.
