Wargames Illustrated (affectionately known as Wi) is the world’s leading and best-selling magazine dedicated to the hobby of miniature wargaming.
Each month Wi features news, views, reviews, and over 100 pages of articles relating to the noble hobby of miniature wargaming – the pursuit of collecting, painting, and gaming with miniature figurines (known variously as figures, miniatures, figs, minis, or toy soldiers).
This Month's Issue Features:
- OBSERVATION POST – As ever, we kick off the magazine with a close look at some new product releases in the hobby.
- RELEASE RADAR – Hot on the heels of our in-depth reviews in Observation Post, Dom Sore takes a more scattergun look at what’s new in wargaming.
- QUICK FIRE – What do your fellow wargamers have to share with you this month?
- THEME: THE WORLD OF PULPS – Chris Swan, whose new Tales of Derring-Do rules are available from Caliver Books, introduces this month’s Pulp theme.
- TOURING ‘THE BATTLE’ – AN ACW MODEL MAKING MASTERCLASS – We were so impressed with Messrs Andrews and Imrie’s American Civil War demo table at Partizan 2023, that we insisted they give us an in-depth tour of the board and share some details on how they brought it together.
- THEME: THE CULT OF DRACULA – Claire Bolton explores the darker corners of Castle Dracula in this beastly scenario for 7TV: Dracula!
- A WARGAMING RETROSPECTIVE – Following the recent release of A Wargaming Retrospective, we catch up with the book’s author (and wargaming royalty!) Charles S. Grant, to ask him a few questions about this new Partizan Press publication.
- THEME: OPERATION BLANDINGS – CHURCHILL AND THE D-RAY – David Bickley returns to the green and pleasant county of Shropshire for some pulp adventures set during World War Two.
- OLD WEST BACKLOT BUILDINGS – Wargames Illustrated’s painter come model making maestro Matt Parkes applies glue and colour to the new Wild West Building by Great Escape Games.
- THEME: DANGER ON THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON – James takes World War Two excitement into space for our Pulp theme with an 02 Hundred Hours mini-campaign.
- RUPERT’S JUNGLE JAUNT: ROYALISTS IN THE GAMBIA 1652 – A CAMPAIGN – Barry Hilton tells us about a recently completed campaign which saw him take players on an amphibious adventure in 17th Century Africa.
- FRAME FOCUS: SCOTTISH COVENANTERS – Matt Parkes celebrates this month’s Warlord Epic Pike & Shotte freebie frame in the only way he knows how – by covering them with paint! We provide a brief background to the Covenanters while Matt shows us how he got his units ready for wargaming.
- SEAFOAM TREES – Paul Mackay follows up on Matt Parkes recent tree making article, with some homemade trees of his own.
- BEDOUIN AND BARONS –
Steve Tibble, WI’s Crusades expert, turns an extraordinary true story into a mini-campaign for The Barons’ War: Outremer.
- THAT SINKING FEELING – Taking a perfectly good MDF model boat and destroying it. Sort of…
- SAXON WARGAMING AT SUTTON HOO – Award winning demo gamer and regular WI contributor James Morris tells us about a recent display he presented at England’s most famous archaeological site.
