Composed in 1869 for the Vienna Men's Choral Association, Strauss' Opus 333 originally included parts for men's chorus. It has since become far more popular in the version he prepared afterward for orchestra only, which is the one presented here in a beautifully engraved new score edited by Clark McAlister.
