The one and only engine on the plane had ceased working. I was writing home that we were once again on our way when I felt a flat lurch-sudden stillness roared from the air vents. It lasted only a few seconds, but was of tremendous impact for I knew that the quiet meant the one and only engine had ceased working. Almost immediately, the motor began to roar again as though nothing had happened, but not before fear had gripped my heart. "What happened?" I shouted. "We have to set the plane down. I can't take a chance of ruining the engine. The temperature is dangerously high, and I have no oil pressure." Ted spoke calmly, but that did not alleviate my fears. I knew what that meant.
