Description

Wisdom From Five Cancer Travelers: Lessons Learned takes the reader on a deep introspective, and at times very intimate journey through several dynamic twist and turns cancer typically wreaks on the individual, family, and most importantly the personal psyche. Dr. Richard Farmer gathers four of his closest friends together, to include his wife Bonnie to share their fears, pains, confusion, and most importantly triumphs as they chronicle their personal reflections of navigating their bout with cancer. Rarely will anyone discuss the highs and lows of living through cancer, and finally these brave souls hold the reader's hand by walking you through receiving the initial diagnosis, strategizing a cure with their physician, sitting through chemo treatments, and figuring out how to say goodbye to everything they have known and loved. This is a must read for everyone desiring the inside story of people who have experienced the biggest fight of their life! We congratulate Richard Farmer, David Persky, Bonnie Cashin Farmer, Cherie LaFlamme Genua, and Burt Harres, all accomplished professional educators who poured their soul into this amazing project that informs and empowers the world.

Author Biography:

Richard E. Farmer is the former President of the Maine College of Health Professions having retired due to his health status with Multiple Myeloma Cancer. Dr. Farmer earned an undergraduate degree from Saint Anselm College, a graduate degree from the University of New Haven, and a Doctor of Education degree from Boston University. He is a psychologist, faculty member, and academic administrator. His psychological practice has focused on stress management issues for police, first responders, and government employees. As the reader is aware, this book is the result of the experiences of five individuals as they have coped with a cancer diagnosis. Richard E. Farmer is the senior author and determined the five topics that each author was asked to write about. Thus, there are five common themes or topics that each author has written about. The Epilogue attempts to review what each author has chosen as the most significant Lessons Learned. To this extent, what follows represents their story as a result of their reluctant cancer journey.
