The adventures of Dorothy, the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow are 70 years old! But they still have a vibrancy and catchiness that will hook viewers young or old. Full of song and dance numbers, the movie takes you through a range of emotions from horror (mild), to excitement, disappointment and finally relief with plenty of laughter along the way.
The action begins in Depression era Kansas where 12 year old Dorothy dreams of a better life away from the bleak farming life. Within a few minutes of the movie opening she is magically transported to another colourful land where the adventures begin. Along the way Dorothy helps the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow believe in themselves while defeating the evil witch and finally realising that her real life is not all that bad.
I would recommend The Wizard of Oz as an antidote to the modern day formulaic children's movies.
