Description

Designed for education students and pre-service teachers, Writer’s Workshop in the College Classroom: Cultivating Original Voices in an Authentic Context teaches readers how to implement the Writer’s Workshop model in a college classroom. The book also shares the author’s unique teaching experiences to illuminate the challenges and successes that come with introducing the model to a course. The book begins with a chapter that outlines the author’s quest to find a meaningful way to teach writing and how the Writer’s Workshop method provided her with an agreeable balance between higher education restraints and her personal teaching philosophy. The text then provides practical instruction for introducing the method to the classroom, including an overview of the key elements of time, ownership, and response, as well as best practices for getting started and maintaining momentum. Readers learn the role an instructor plays in moderating the Writer’s Workshop, including strategic record keeping to inspire accountability, teaching mini lessons, and celebrating writing accomplishments. Writer’s Workshop in the College Classroom is an ideal resource for undergraduate and graduate educational programs. It could also be used by any instructor who is interested in implementing the Writer’s Workshop method to their courses.
