Even as Scully's genetically altered DNA beings her closer to the brink of death, Government agent Michael Kritschgau helps Mulder in search for a cure, partly to atone for his own involvement with perpetrating the alien hoax. Scully's DNA comes into play once again when she discovers she is the mother of a little girl, an incident that could only be related to her abduction years earlier. But in the end it is a young boy whose body may contain genetic proof of a man's relationship to an alien race and who may hold the key to un-locking the mysterious of the X-Files. As the X-Files entered its fifth season it wasn't just every day fans who were getting swept up in the growing phenomena. Even famous writers-turned-fans Stephen King and William Gibson got in on the act, co-writing an episode each. Plus at the same time the fifth season began, the show's first season was beginning its run in syndication, whilst there was a buzz around the upcoming theatrical release of the X-Files movie - the first of its kind, a film that would pick up where the television series cliffhanger left off.
